Can I put fish in a 1.021 salinity rating? I just got my first saltwater tank 1 month ago and everything thing is now right except the salinity and I just wanted to make sure it was safe

If they're acclimated properly, yes. Many LFS purposely keep their SG low to slow parasites, so you should always check the parameters of the water you receive livestock in.

You can do water changes with your target salinity to bring it up to where you want it as well. That's what I would recommend. Is there a reason you aren't wanting to correct the SG in your display?

I personally run my tank at 1.022 to 1.023 because its a fowler tank, no inverts no coral. Also have tangs, those things get ich like crazy it seems when I kept it at 1.025/6 area. But when I brought it to the level its at now my tangs all seemed to be healthier and my eels have became more active which I found interesting. Just my experience

What can I do to make the salinity go up? Aquarium salt? Adding saltwater?
You should not add salt to your tank directly.

If you have an ATO, you can fill the ATO with salt water, that will slowing bring it up.

If there's nothing in the tank, I'd do water changes as was stated, either with the target salinity, or even saltier (I did this). There are calculators for this, I honestly just winged it.

I would check what the SG is where you get the fish from before doing anything . I just ordered fish and the SG they're sent in was 1,020 . I had to lower the SG in my QT

I'm going to recommend this thread, this might help with some questions you might have about reef keeping!
