Can I repurpose CO2 solenoid?

I have a solenoid that I used for CO2 on a planted tank in the past.
Can I use it inline with water to shut off the flow?
I want to use it with my apex to control a homemade chiller with a bunch of 1/4" line coiled in my sump.
I hope to have solenoid open up when temp climbs and shut when temp reaches desired temp.
Just not sure if it is for gas only or will it work with water as well?

Not sure I totally get your application...but if you're talking about saltwater, my guess is that it definitely will eat your solenoid.

If it's freshwater, it only might eat your solenoid. ;)

Do you know what you solenoids important parts are made of?

The block on solenoid is made of aluminum.
I have tee'd off of my cold water supply under my sink.
Have a run of 1/4" poly tubing, the kind made for fridge icemaker supply.
60 some odd feet is coiled in my sump for heat exchange and then runs back to a drain.
I was wanting to put a solenoid at the end of the run to shut water on and off, controled by apex.
A crude but simple chiller for the hottest days only.
Total cost not including solenoid that I already had was about $20
The fresh water running thru it would be at the end of the run and never near or in contact with water from tank.

Probably wouldn't hurt to try it. If it is for CO2 it is designed for 2000psi + pressures. Not sure if that will effect how it functions with almost no pressure.
