Can metal corner bracing in a wooden stand hold up multiple tanks?

I found this photo on the web and they used some sort of metal bracing on the corners of each shelf. Is the weight of the tanks still on the screws? Or is this method stronger than using screws to hold up the shelves?

Probably in smaller tank applications. Those look to be 10gs in the middle and a 20l under that so 200- 300lbs do-able. I'd still want vertical support directly under the horizontal for anything heavier.

the weight is still on the screws....but now spread out across abit. Those brackets also aid in sway

If the screws used are the ones supplied with the hangers (SD8x1.25), they're rated for 45lbs shear in SPF lumber like that and the brackets for 300 lbs each. So you'd be good up to about a 1,200lbs static load on each shelf.
