Upgraded to an AI prime 16hd from stock, running acclimation starting @40% ramping to 100% after 30 days. Running similar schedule to ab+ but maxed my blues.

couldn’t help myself with a rainbow monti to test it out, glued an old skelly for it to encrust on to make it easier for fragging and a little more structural sex appeal while it grows out.

Hi! I am new to reefing and I currently have the same brand tank but the 5 gallon one instead. I was considering upgrading to the 13.5. Could you please explain to me what equipment you changed from the AIO and why? I know you included in your build but unfortunately I do not know what most is... D: Your tank looks wonderful!

Thank you for saying that!

it’s an excellent little tank for what it is. I removed the foam filtration insert from the second chamber and left it empty and made a media basket that I use in chamber one. It’s really simple to make if you look back in the build I posted pics so you can copy it or whatever if you decide to go that route. I just use filter floss, some carbon and purigen for mechanical filtration. I plugged the hole in chamber 2 that takes water from the display and I also plugged 4 of the slits between chamber 1/2 that helps with water flow through the chambers.

I added an Ai Nero 3 power head for flow but that was preference, you’ll have to decide on how much flow you need based off your rock work and corals etc..I started off just using a hydor koralia 425 which puts out decent flow and would probably suffice for most cases, they’re about 50$ on Amazon which is a little more for a basic power head but I’ve been using their products for 15 years and haven’t had any complaints.

I recently upgraded my light to a AI prime with moving into sps and looking for better coloration, but I had no problems with growth with the stock light. even a capping monti and a hammer grew lots. I did purchase the fluval dimmer that allows the light to ramp up/down that I was using since the beginning so I could adjust the stock light at least instead of either 0% or 100% so I’m sure that helped with acclimation etc, I’d recommend getting that.
Still running the stock return pump. Pretty basic setup minus the light and Nero and a little diy. Ask me anything else I’m happy to help.

Hammer time. Cant believe how fast the purple tip is growing.. started as a small 2 headed frag, now almost completely split into 4, and looks like a little stalk is starting to sprout off the main base..Euphyllia/torches are definitely my favourite type of lps.

I need to upgrade my phone, sorry for the brutal quality. Random tank shot, everything’s healthy, cleaner shrimp moulted with some eggs for the first time. Lots of growth in the zoa farm. Cant see the bivalve in the sympodium until the pm anymore. Can see growth on the rockscaped sps daily.

Update

overall tank has been mostly enjoyable, only changes I’ve done are removing gfo and lowering my alk to 8.5ish..and went with pulse mode on the Nero 3 which is working nicely, gives great movement to the euphyllia. Dosing is a necessity, tank is using around .6 dkh in 24 hours and a few points of calc so if there’s one thing I can complain about it’s having to manually do it. Will definitely be looking at dosers in the future.

-cool morph from some zippers
-gold branching hammer splitting almost monthly it seems, super small heads but lots of polyps and have a lovely greenish hue on the inside, can’t really see with pics unfortunately.

-Haven’t had much luck with torches, lost a couple over the year but this ds seems to be relatively happy, split 1-2 and currently splitting again.
