Candy cane Coral care question?

Are Candy Cane corals suppose to be all hard? Like gard shell? I purchased a small colony from LFS and they seem to be fine. I don't ever see anything odd other than when I was glue to live rock some white strands came out of the. I spray some phyto and reef roids one or around them 1x week but I don't even see anything come out of the inside hole in each head.

Today I was scrubbing some stubborn algea from the base of my tank where substrate is and I accidently popped a head with its stalk off. I nested it back in the colony and might frag it this weekend if necessary otherwise can I just let it be?
