Anyone here using a canister filter as a vac to clean up the tank? I have a bare bottom tank and thinking of getting one to clean up the bottom and the rocks. Pretty much using it as a vacuum cleaner and just letting the water go back into the tank.

I've not used a canister but I suppose it might work but would require it being cleaned between each use to prevent matter decaying inside then getting pushed into the tank on the next use.
I run barebottom. I'll typically vacuum when I'm doing water changes. If I need to vacuum between changes I run the hose into a filter sock in the sump if possible then change the sock. You could also hang a sock on the side of a bucket and strain the water through that then pour it back into the tank if you do not have a sump with socks.
