So i finally got done reading a bunch about proper camera settings for tank photos. I setup my camera (canon rebel xs dslr with efs 55mm lens) to shoot in the Raw at ISO 400. I set a custom white balance and started shooting. I will need to get a tripod to get a lot clearer pictures. But it did help with some post processing to really bring out the colors just like they look in my tank. I was very happy! Any suggestions would be great, i know i gotta work on the focusing ;)
Enjoy guys

You don't need to bother with a custom white balance if you are shooting in the RAW format. Nice job correcting the white balance. A tripod is definitely needed. In the meantime, try a stool with books stacked on it so you can vary the camera height. Anything that will take the camera out of your hands and help you eliminate the movement. Flow off?

I use the rebel XSi and I agree with Gary about no need to use custom WB when shooting RAW. You are better off manually adjusting the WB with post processing. I fing that when I try the custom WB settings in my camera the greens come out too yellow. But in PS I can tell it that the color temp is 20,000 Kelvin and it looks just like I see in my tank.
