Looking at multiple cameras. Debating and it's tough

Canon 70D
Canon Rebel T6
And any Nikon in that $500-800 price range.

Nikon. They have better optics. Over the years I've had both and found that small details were always sharper with my Nikon.

Sucks. I was a staff photographer on high school and college yearbook and news papers and photography was a hobby for years. Most of my pics were taken b4 digital technology. I'm over 50. The only camera I have left.is my Droid.

This is my Canon T6i. See how there is no detail.

Unless you want scrappy pics like these, you better go with Nikon.

Jk. I believe rev had started a thread in the photography Forum, Nikon versus Canon. You should check it out. Seems like both are pretty close. I've always been under the believe it's whichever one you are used to is where you're going to get the better pics.

I saw it but I think it's still a toss up. And that thread has cameras that have been updated so there needs to be a refresh lol. 2017!

Doesn't matter, what matters most is the lens.
But.. with that said Sony wins over Nikon/canon any day.

The never-ending debate. Just like Ford and Chevy. Some people for whatever reason prefer Fords. They probably had a father that was a mechanic and could keep one running long enough until they saved up to buy a tattered hat with a Ford logo on it. Because Chevy is obviously Superior in so many ways. LOL

I've got a canon rebel t6i which I'm pretty happy with. More important than brand is high quality glass to go on it moand a good set of filters. Also really knowing how to mage your settings to make the photo what you want.

@saltyfilmfolks You've probably got some good input on this

Thanks for the tag.

I'll just say. It ain't the camera.

Btw. I drive a used BMW. :D, my macro is a Minolta (backwhen they were the ones making the glass for Leica ) and one of my cameras is a Panasonic , that uses the same color processors as the digital leicas. I stopped shooting cannons because the thumb wheel is right where my thumb goes and I kept changing the exposure. Sony is directly responsible for modern modern digital cinema and and I used to shoot video exclusively on it and always used Fuji lenses. Both have liscenced and sold thier glass and processor tech to most all other manufacturers world wide.

So Nikon be cannon? How big is your thumb.

I have always been told at this point it's about feel. Today's cameras are so good it's hard to tell them apart. I have a few friends that are photographers. Those that are portrait photographers typically seem to use Nikon. Those that take take live action shots and wildlife seem to choose canon. I was told by one that Nikon lenses are more expensive and you need far more lenses when you specialize in wildlife and/or sports photography.

Typical NFL sideline:

You don't need high end camera. It's all in the lens and filters. Canon and Nokia are both great manufacturers. I started with Canon and when I could afford high end moved to the nikon d810. With the multiple lens and other equipment its run me well over $7k. Can I tell the difference in daily photography? Eh. But it allows for more manipulation of images and way to shoot them. Find a mid range camera that won't break you and get some good lenses.

Sony burned me once with the Alpha and changing mounts. Never again. With Nikon and Canon you can still use lenses from decades ago. Sony hasn't proven they have that kind of commitment.
This is true. The difficulty for everyone now is mirrorless is the future.
Sony bought Minolta, that was the mount you had and got lost one it came time to transition.
It'll be interesting to see how Nikon and cannon handle this. All mounts are based on flange depth. So you can't make a sleek thin body and keep the correct flange depth.

I love my Canon t5i. Awesome DSLR. However I am VERY new to macro. I was deep into astrophotography where the choice is ALWAYS canon because of software. These photos are from only my second time ever attempting macro this past week. Still LOTS of room for improvement. Don't hold these photos against Canon.
