Hello, Id like the goal of this thread to be a collection of data from people using the captiv8 master dosing method (and only the isol8 solutions) and their results specifically from ICP. It can be data from any ICP provider MS or OES, ideally please include your latest calculator and the resulting ICP after your full master solution has been dosed. I want todo this because I've been using the method personally for about a year now on a monthly basis with Triton. Every month so far I have been increasing the majority of dosages and still getting zeros on certain elements like zinc for example. The higher the dosage goes past the baseline to get a standard value without seeing the results on ICP the more worried I get.

Here is my collection of all the basic applications for the Isol8 elements

So.. as a first example this is my previous/new master solutions and ICP results from triton. This tank is 160 gallons.

Setpoint is what readings I'm shooting for in a perfect world, the majority of them come from Fauna Marin's knowledge base which so far seems like the most up to date data on specific elements. I realize a lot of these are higher then NSW and do not want that to be the focus of the thread. Thanks!

I am planning on taking ICPs with a couple different providers this month at the same time, Triton, Fauna and Reeflabs. I'm sure they wont be perfect with each other but want to check for any extreme differences.

Are you dosing these daily?
Yeah they are incorporated into a “master solution” following captiv8s calculator instructions. All the elements are added to a 1 gallon RODI solution other then the ones in red. Then that solution is dosed 24/7 with a pump (167ml a day) until it runs out around the 30 day mark.

All 6 icps finally back, results from 2 different tanks and 3 different icp companies all 3 samples taken at the exact same time. Not sure what too think yet lol

hello. I just started capiv8 master solution. one week in. I don't believe that triton icp can read micro trace elements. I just purchased ATI icp-oes/ms. lower resolution for trace elements

I completely agree and found that triton is dangerously un-sensitive for this use and even macros they arnt doing well. Also just starting using atis oes/ms test and really liking it. Ill post a comparison of the tests on the same two tanks soon ati/triton.

It is true that ICP-OES has a hard time seeing natural levels of some trace elements. I actually doubt you'd have a problem dosing enough to detect it that way, but if you want to target lower levels than their detection limit, ICP-MS is the way to go.

I know for a fact after monthly testing and dosing on dozens of tanks for over a year with triton that their detection limit is not sensitive enough and elements that are well over 1ug/l are not being picked up.

Agreed though ms is the way to go.

Yes, I understand what the detection limits are.

What I am saying is that I do not agree that one necessarily needs to target specific values below their detection limit. There's little evidence that exact target levels of trace elements are critical in most cases.

I totally agree, check above for my set-points on the charts. With all those tanks I was dosing and aiming for above their detection limit. I do think triton and oes should at-least be able to pick up something when it’s above their stated detection limit.

My goal using oes and I think many other peoples was just to dose x element until it hit atleast 1ug/l. Im finding that is not reliable enough as triton wont even ping for 1ug/l until its actually well over that and into 10+ ug/l.

OK, that's fair. I do not know how well they hit their claims. I've gotten molybdenum and zinc in single digit ug/L, but that was quite a while ago.

Understood. I think fauna is supposed to be pretty reputable as well...dont remember if they offer the ms option yet? I know they were close last time I looked into it..which was a while.

Last I heard I think they are adding ms as an additional option for certain elements. Love that idea

Just wanted to update this, have been using ati ms testing for 3 ish months now. Im finding the results much more reliable and seemingly accurate. For example if I dose more zinc I see that effect in the next test like I should lol.

I would no longer recommend oes testing or at least triton oes specifically to people dosing trace elements. A lot of what I was dosing based on triton seems to have been way overdosed because of their low sensitivity.
