Cardinal fish

I was wondering if I can have more the one cardinal fish in my tank which is 40 gallons I currently have 2 clownfish and a starry blenny and I don’t know if the cardinal fish well fight each other over Territorial disputes if they happens maybe go with a pink streaked wrasse

What kind of cardinal? When I did Bangaii, I was told to get three of them, two of them would pair up, then take the third one back to my lfs. Not sure why three, it’s possible that it’s to increase the chance of getting a male and female rather than two of the same gender.

You could always try to see if you could get an already established bonded pair.

Also what type of Cardinal? Bangai? Pajama? Some other type?

Fairly certain some are friendlier than others.

Bangai maybe 2 or 3 only thing I would be concerned about is aggressive behavior

Once mature Banggais will not tolerate the opposite sex. You can have a mated pair or just one.
