Hope someone can help. I just noticed this on my Cardinal today. I’ve had him for 5 years and he’s always been healthy and eats well.
for some reason he has been aggressive towards my smaller Cardinal I keep with him in my 6’ tank lately. I am treating for Dino’s so my tank is on the “dirty” side. Any help is appreciated

Looks very much like a bacterial issue and will need immediate treatment in a quarantine setting. Treatment is Seachem kanaplex for 5-7 days
Add aeration during treatment

Thanks. Some self research was pointing in that direction but wanted additional opinions. Never in 10 years have I ever had a problem like this before. Appreciate the input

No definitely not.

Five years is a pretty long run for this species. Is it still feeding?

It looks like an injury, but I can't imagine how that would have happened to a long term captive like this....

Hi Jay. You know, I didn’t look up their life span to see if he’s just succumbing to an old age related issue. He was king of his castle and actually began to be aggressive towards the other cardinal that is newer but they had previously got along. Maybe his aggression backfired on him?
Currently have him in a hospital tank with Kanaplex to see if that does anything for the issue.
I appreciate your response.
