From the LiveAquaria site, it looks like they prefer cooler temps (72-78 F). Haven't kept them, but in general, it seems that deep water species prefer their water colder than reef water species.

I agree. Deepwater reef tanks require lower temperatures. I mean some deep water species like certain Genicanthus angels and Blackcap Basslets do just fine in fully tropical, shallow water tanks that most of us have. Also depends on how “deep” you’re talking about.

Have had mine for about 8 months now. As you might think, not fond of a lot of light. Behavior not that similar to BSJ. Tend to stay tighter to burrow, good eater, not overly shy. Got mine when it was only about 2 inches, closer to 3 now.

Pretty cool fish. I'd check with KP aquatics out of Florida before I paid $350.00 for that fish.

Now this Jawfish is a true rarity:

However it gets to 8” and considering the depth at which it lives gonna need a pretty hardcore chiller.

Would love to see someone with a lower mesophotic / rariphotic setup.
