My philosophy and practical approach:
I have always kept my tanks simple, a jbj ato is my "high tech" equipment. In all seriousness I LOVE this hobby first as a foolish teenager, even more as an adult. I believe less is more and my approach is as follows:
1. I only use metal halides (best growth, plug and play, they work, corals like them)
2. I like sand and alot of it. (I enjoy the microfauna, and the additional filtration plus it looks natural)
3. I feed the my fish and corals heavily and with variety.
4. I dose kalkwasser via an ato.
5. I do 10% water changes every 7 days.
6. I like the corals I like, so I mix em. (I dont know half the names of my sps, they look cool so I buy them)
7. I dont tell my wife what I spend, I let the statement be like a birthday present.
8. I like big sumps and I can not lie
Not an expert, but had great success in this hobby. I look forward to sharing my tank and exp with those who will.
Bought a new house and the 40 breeder was as big as I wanted to go for the moment.
The system
40 gallon diy overflow, holes
Diy stand and canopy
Lighting is 2x150 14k phoenix, Dual 36" Blue+ T5
Circulation is done via a panworld return, and a jeabao wp-25
Dosing consists of pickling lime, and weekly water changes with Reef Crystals
MRC sump with a PAR 38 LED from LOWES
20 lbs live rock, and a 4" sand bed
Heres some progression shots pics to kick off the thread.
