Backwards, completely backwards. Cats are the best. You don't... Have to let them out all the time, clean the yard after letting them out, exercise them, 24/7 babysit them, feed them 2 times a day, trim their claws. A needy person is a dog person, an independent person is a cat person. But since this is a saltwater hobby website, most are around all the time to babysit their dogs.
This may work for some people but it absolutely depends on how allergic you are. I love cats but even with meds if I'm in a house with most over an hour its a trip to the er and twice daily nebulizer treatments for about a week after. There are specific breeds that seem to produce less of the fel d 1-8 proteins or less of one or another specific protein depending on your tolerance of the specific protein levels. Most people have the greatest reaction to fel d 1 for example but may not react to the others. All cats produce fel d 1 btw just in different levels. The amount of these allergens produced is also not just breed specific it's also specific to the individual animal and changes with age. Sometimes there will be a specific animal in a litter that will produce very low or high levels of allergens for no real known reason. Anyway, the only reason I mention this is that op mentioned lower allergens in specific breeds. As a highly allergic person I urge you to find the auctual individual animal you would like to adopt and spend time with it. There's also a certain amount of a reaction you may be willing to accept, maybe some general fatigue or scratchy throat occasionally is acceptable but a sever reaction like mine that lead to a hospital stay wouldn't be. It's a personal choice but I'd recommend setting a clear limit on what your willing to accept and what your expectations are so you dont impulse buy a cute kitty and end up living miserable later.
