CBB is in qt for ich and then I’ll be doing prazi.

Fish eating a ton and I think the fish is doing well. However, there’s a single black dot on the fin (see attached video). It’s been there a few days and I don’t see other spots for black ich and it looks too large or pronounced. I don’t think it’s a grain of sand either. Any ideas or recommendations?

That's Lymphocystis. CBB are prone to this and it sometimes looks gray instead of white. No treatment is needed for this mild viral disease, but you may see more spots develop over time before they fade.

Thank you, Jay. Do they typically fade away completely if the fish continues to stay in good health?

The growths may grow larger and in new locations. As long as they don't form on the mouth and impede feeding, they will fade away in 4 to 6 weeks,

Thought I’d post an update. Copperband is doing really well. No signs of ich and I just dosed prazi. Still has the same spot from lympho which hopefully clears up soon. CBB still has an insane appetite and is constantly eyeing me down for more grub. Its behavior reminds me of my clowns lol. I’m very lucky to have such a trooper

Everyone else in qt looking great as well. No other fish have showed signs of ich but were treated - and now in prazi as well.

- ignore the sand lol. Wrasse had a hard time with the Tupperware

@Jay Hemdal noticed a slight bump and discoloration on the stripe above the mouth. It’s in a weird spot that I don’t think it’d be from scraping but I’m not sure. Ammonia / nitrite / nitrate have been fine. Fish is still eating a ton. Any ideas?

That seems to be a common place where CBB get injured - I think they bump their "foreheads" while feeding. Snout injuries are also pretty common with these.

I would just watch it for now - if it grows larger or turns red, that can be a sign of secondary bacterial infection.

Thanks Jay. Fish is fidgeting a bit during prazi. Would you FW dip or continue the prazi?

I would not FW dip the fish, the prazi controls the same parasites. FW dips can be very stressful (from catching the fish up mostly)

Just noticed my cbb has some tissue flailing around behind the gills. Have had for a year now and is still eating like a pig.

Are Flukes possibly back? I treated like 8 months ago in display

No new additions

@Jay Hemdal

There’s also a few black dots.

Flukes would cause rapid breathing. I start to worry of the gill beats go over 100 to 125 per minute. You can count the number in 15 seconds and multiply by 4.

I've seen excess growth from the skin under fish's gill plates before - I don't know what causes that, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. If the tissue looks like its coming from inside the gill itself, this could be goiter.

@Jay Hemdal, now I’m seeing this red mark along the fin. All my parameters are in line but nitrate is high at 60. Doing a water change now. Fish is eating well. Have had him for over a year, no new additions, all other fish are fine.

Flukes? I dosed prazi a while back and haven’t had any issues or losses. I think I’ve reached my limit of being able to dose prazi as well based on previous threads I’ve read.

That just doesn’t look like flukes to me - you aren’t seeing scratching or rapid breathing, right?

I wonder if this is some chronic issue related to the unknown gill problem?

I counted 120 breaths per minute. I’m not seeing any scratching.

I’m not sure what else to do other than do a few water changes over the next few days to reduce nitrates.
