I hear mix reviews on how well these do for sumps to suck up nitrates and phosphates. Looking to see what the general census is on if there worth having or not.
I've never heard mixed reviews. The fact is they grow much too slow to remove any decent amount of nutrients. You would need a whole forest of them.
If your goal is nutrient removal, you can't beat Chaeto.
I like to grow them but it's purely for fun.
Well those two posts are mixed reviews so thats why im asking. Some say they dont others say they take out a ton. I have some sort of calerpa species in my sump and would like to get something else seeing as it took over my chateo and i have none left.
I agree with the second post. I keep both in my fuge. The mangrove just doesn't grow fast enough to provide any nutrient export. The chaeto is the ticket there.
I do, however, want to build a display/fuge containing a number of mangroves and macro algae. I just love how they look in the fuge.
i grow mangroves in the fuge just because they are mangroves.. i think it looks great, i have 5 stalks... don't really care about their nutrient exportation abilities lol.
