Chaeto question

Hey r2r I’m running my first refugeium. I had my cheato growing rapidly 24/7 light schedule with no issues in refugium department. My nitrates were staying at 0 so lowered it it off cycle from lights (14 hours from 24) and it just started falling apart with in days. Did I shock it with the light cycle? Should I drop it an hour a day? Should I keep light cycle and lower protein skimmer(classic 202-s octo)
Everything was running perfect besides undetectable nitrates.

Calcium 400
Phosphate.01
Ph 8.1
