Today I got the Innovative Marine 18W Refugium Light and I realized that the back of the light was starting to get hot.
Just wondering if this is normal, don't want anything bad to happen before it's too late.

Thank you!

How hot are we talking here? If you place your finger tips on the back of the unit, how long can you keep them on before it gets uncomfortable?

It seems to be getting over 100 degrees in a few minutes after turning them on.

I sent an email to Innovative Marine asking if it should get hot and this was their reply:

The 18w ChaetoMax can get hot depending on how long you have the light on for. The aluminum body on the ChaetoMax works as a heat sink to release the heat from the unit itself. We actually don’t have an average heat temperature because everyone runs the light in a different cycle period to fit their aquarium needs. Usually you’ll want to run the ChaetoMax opposite of your main light cycle.
