Has anyone seen anything like this? The top of my chalice is like melting/eroding away.
Thanks,
Doug

No fish picking and did not drop it. It is one of my oldest corals from a 1/2" frag and don't want to loose it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Doug

Check your alkalinity first and then magnesium because usually if you have low alkalinity my chalice will show this receed sign before get to my sps/acro

I had this happen before. When I was cleaning the tank a little of the salt creep landed on one of my chalices and looked just like that.

Usually low alk will cause recession along the edges, and then work into the main body of the coral. Looks like something happened to it, weird.

the same thing happened to my BPC Flamethrower. I ended up finding out my hydrometer was out of wack making my salinity 1.022. Needless to say i use a refractometer now. My Flamthrower bounced right back once i got the salinity back to normal. The sooner you find out there better because more of those melting spots will appear.

Ok i checked params and my alk was low compared to usual.
alk 7.5
cal 450
mag 1420
ni 6
phos .04

I'll slowly raise it back up and see if that works.
Thanks everyone,
Doug

What kind of alk numbers are you all running? I usually like to be around 10 but I didn't realize I was low on 2-part hence the 7.5

Doug
