I have about 12 around 1" Chalices on the sand bed. The "Pink *******" just RTN'ed out of nowhere. It just started to flake off, within 2 days there's nothing left but pure white skeleton.

Parameters

Temp 76-78
pH 8.0-8.2
ALK 8.5
Calcium 480

Have anything like this happen to anyone's Chalice?

mag is at around 1300-1350
Salinity 1.026

I did put it in a low light and low flow area after it RTN, but it continued.

Is the interceptor used for Red Bugs? I have a bunch of SPS, I though red bugs will affect the SPS more.

It doesn't have to be red bugs that are bothering your chalices. Sometimes it is amphipods or some other type of pest. Interceptor will take care of most "bugs" in the reef. On another note, I keep my Mg levels pretty high and my chalices seem to love it. 1500 seems to be the best for me.

Do a google for interceptor and chalice. I had chalice recession, though slower that you noted, bubblegum was first to get hit, Cyphastrea followed and then the masses. Suspected villain is an invisible bug that interceptor treats.

i had that also. it doesnt sound like what happened to the pink *******.
i would say its mag/ alk related.

I had the same issue, couldn't figure it out until I noticed my Blenny munching on my chalice.

Wouldn't ALK swing affect the more sensitive SPS in the tank first? I'm using a Bubble Magnus dosing ALK/CAL/MAG, I would like to believe it's pretty stable.

it's worth checking you KH. I love my BM doser - you do need to replace the heads depending on use. Do a controlled test of say 30 ml into a vial to make sure you are dosing what you expect.

The other side is that dosing requirements can change over time. my phosphate has crept up and growth slowed reducing my requirements. Caused a slight increase in KH before I caught it.

ive had alk swings that wiped out my lps yet ive still got the sps in that tank.
low magnesium will make the flesh just pull off and float away.
those evil pods/bugs whatever eat from the outside in and it happens only at night.

I tested the ALK again today and it's at 8.5 exactly where it was last month. I do see bugs/pods around the chalice at night. Anything you can do about that.
