I doubt they are collected that deep......on most dives that I have been on you only see sponges and NP corals below 100 feet or so......that is just from my own diving experience and I certainly haven't dove everywhere, although I wish I could!

Excuse me if i am wrong but arn't all chalices pretty much considered "deepwater" collected. I read a long article awhile back about the collection of chalices in australia. They were collecting them all in the 150 to 300 foot deep range. They actually had to give the corals decompression time because if they brought them straight up they would instantly melt.
