need some advice please.i have a 120 mostly sps that i ran 400w mh on for the past 4 years. in that time i had a few chalice that are still with me today. i removed the mh and added a tek 8 bulb fixture a few months ago. since then i added a few more chalice. the problem i'm having is the colors seemed to have faded a bit on the chalice, one prisim favia and my war coral. i moved all out of the light a bit(under the center brace) but are all on the bottom off the sand. none actually touch the sand. i run 4-blue+, 2- fiji purple,1- ati actinic,1- aquablue special. the lights are 27" from the sand bed. i guess the question is do you think the light is a little bright, or is it just the switch? would you hide the chalice from light a little, or leave them and let them adjust? i though of changing one of the fiji purples for a blue or actinic.if you run an 8 bulb tek and keep chalice where are they in your tank? there's been no change in sps or water parm. just the lights. btw- the old lights were-2 400w ushio 20k's with 1 super actic vho & 1 454 vho. sorry so long. thanks for any replys

When I replaced my fixture, I went from 250w MH and 4x54w T5(overdriven) to a ATI 8x54. There was some def color loss, almost like they bleached. After about a month the colors started coming back better than ever. I have noticed with my chalices that when the alk is on the higher end they tend to lose some color. I ended up with my fixture about 12" from the top of my tank and about 36" from the bottom of my tank(120g) and I can still grow sps on the bottom of my tank. I run 5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 Fiji Purples and 1 UVL Super Actinic. I still have a mummy eye and a watermelon that have not got their color back all of the way, which could come in time. I just do not want to go much higher with my fixture, because there is a clam on the bottom as well.

Just give it some time and keep an eye on them. I could take them some time to adjust.
