I find it disturbing to watch and it is cruel, but they are using it for meat.
When I fish, catfish, bass, perch, salmon etc.. and I want to eat my catch. I kill them much the same way. I take a hammer or the handle of my knife hit the fish in the head a few times to knock it out/stunn it so it will stop flapping, then cut its head off, skin it or scale it, cook it, eat it.
I think it would be very difficult to knock a dolphin out before killing it and the best way would be they way they are doing it.

I like meat and eat meat but in order for that to happen, something has to die.
I have also watched the PETA vidoes on Cows and chickens-but I still eat steak and chicken.

I eat sushi, and animals....though I'm a huge animal lover. I eat hamburgers but I'd probably cry my eyes out if I watched someone gut a cow.

The only thing that sticks out to me about a dolphin is that they are #3 on the list of most intelligent species on the planet. There is something about intellegence level that seems to make it crueler to kill an animal. I'm not saying it should be that way. That being said....did you know that pigs are #4...right under dolphins? Very intellegent animals and thought to actually be related to dolphins prehistorically. Oddly enough the animal they are both thought to evolve from looked kind of like a wolf that hunted in watery/swamp type regions. I have no problem eating bacon though.

Yes it shows dolphin meat for sale under the banner of whale meat.....That is a big descrepincy. Maybe some of the people that eat sushi don't know that they are being fooled and served dolphin......There is a major difference between something that is free in the ocean and something that is specifically bred for human consumption. I eat meat too but to me there is a big difference when something is being farmed for food, then herding a bunch of dolphins to be killed and sold as whale meat. All world orgs. including the U.N. have come out and banned whaling and there are only a few countries that still do it with irregard of the global calls to stop and Japan is the biggest. Now if they want to farm them in big ponds and leave the wild populations alone that is there business. I fish also and there is still no proof that they actually feel pain, which I'm sure they do but is it the kind of sense that we do? Not sure.......Just thought I would post.....

My problem is that they are so ruthless. They mess up their sonar, then the herd them up, then they injure a few, then they start slaughtering them, some of them right in the same spot that they have herded the others. That to me is inhumane. They don't leave each other when they are injured, mothers don't leave the babies. It's just bad.

I wouldn't have such a problem with it if they were using a fishing pole and catching them one by one and doing it.

I have a problem with killing something thats so high up the intellegence chain because I believe they are capable of reasoning. Its been said that they can detect sickness in humans and pay more attention to those with cancer and such in captivity. There are even those that thinking their sonar can be therapeudic to people with certain illness.

Well the US navy has a sonar blast that kills whales dolphins painfully. They test it regularly, and kill them everytime.
They say its in self defense, and people are fine with that.
If most people seen the way commercial slaughtering is done there would be alot more vegans.
Pigs are walked into a steel box and shocked till they die. Cows necks are slit and let bleed.
Its for consumption, What can ya say??? We need meat.
