Check valve?

I'm setting up a 210g tank and I'm using a 3,000 gph pump and I'm wondering if I need a check valve? Iv had problems with them being too much restriction for the pumps in the past. If I do need one where do I get one big enough for a pump of that size? Thank you

Look on BRS they have the good check valves that work a lot better than crap ones from lowes with springs.

why...would you need a check valve?!? If your system is designed properly and effectively there really is no need for one. Also, a check valve can fail after time and with even the slightest obstruction. You really do not want to trust your entire system to a single check valve. Redundancy is KEY! as is good planning.

No, check valves are a false sense of security and can and will fail. There is no need for one as long as you have a properly designed return system and keep a little freeboard in your sump to contain the very small, easily calculated amount of water that will siphon back during a power outage. In my 100G that is a maximum of 3.4 gallons going back to my 30G sump before the return is exposed to atmosphere and breaks suction. We all know water can't jump uphill so you have an air gap, the most foolproof maintenance free form of backflow prevention know to man.
