Hi all,

I have a Choati Wrasse that has been with me in QT for about a month. The "quarantine" tank is more of a holding tank - sandbed of 2-3 inches with several pieces of established live rock (not a sterile hospital tank setup). It was eating at the distributor and was held for me for several weeks before shipment. When I received it, it went into the sand on day 1 but was out and eating by day 2. For the first 2-3 weeks, she did great, slowly extending her time spent out & about, and eating enthusiastically. Basically, adjusting well and making progress. Now, over the last week she has been coming out less - coming out of the sand later, going back under the sand earlier, and now to the point that for the past few days she will only come out if I dig around in the sand to wake her up.

I know these are difficult fish, but I do have a decent amount of experience with other leopard wrasses. I'm not sure if I should continue to "wake her up" or just let her stay buried for a few days if she wants to. I'm puzzled and disappointed that she seemed to be adjusting to well and now for seemingly no reason seems to be regressing. But, I guess that is part of what makes these fish difficult to keep. I'm even considering throwing a diamond goby in QT with her - figured it would dig around in the sand all day and perhaps keep her out more. Although she has shown no signs of disease, I'm hesitant to throw her in the display tank, as I would no longer be able to fish around in the sandbed to force her out.
