Christian's Overstocked AP 24

 wow, christian is legit !!!:nerd::xd:
Love the sps !!!!!

Thanks Twaldo,

Tracked down a nice piece of Reefarmers Blue Matrix that I'm picking up after work today for Christian.. Alright, this ones for me because I've been trying to find one for awhile:) Unfortunately, we lost our Pembroke Welsh Corgi this morning and I have to go out and cheer myself up. He was 11, but was running around yesterday morning playing squirt guns with the boys and had a seizure. This one lasted 4 hours and by the time I got home I sat down with him for the night. One thing I have to say is that even though we get attached to our fish and corals it's much harder to lose a dog:( Christian is taking it pretty hard too, so maybe the coral will help us take our mind off of it..

I'm sorry about the dog. Was that it's first seizure?? Our labradoodle who is 3 has gran mal (spell check?) seizures every 4 months almost to the day. She is 3
And has two full blown knee replacements which she got at 1year6months
And has had seizure ever since the surgery. Exactly right I love the reef but my dogs are just such a big part of my life I don't know what I would do without them.

I'm sorry Christian!

Thanks Jack,

He actually started having seizures when he was 3 and we had noticed for some reason they would mostly come about when he had steak bones or anything with beef bone marrow in it. After we stopped giving him steak bones or anything with bone marrow in it they reduced to maybe twice a year. The scariest one was when he was playing ball around the pool and had one and he fell in. Luckily we were able to get him out.. Fortunately, he was healthy other than his occassional seizures and was great with Christian and Cameron. Bailee is our only dog left because we lost our German Shepard two years ago as well. My wife wants a Polmeranian, but I can't come to terms with a dog that could actually fit in a 5 gallon aquarium..lol

Sorry to hear about your dogs health issues. I would have thought that the labordoodles would have less problems than a pure bred, since they're a combination breed. It's tough watching them go through seizures because there's very little you could do about it. Fortunately, my Dad is an anesthesiologist and is only a phone call away, so he's able to administer sedatives during the long ones like yesterday. Hope your dog's seizures get better like Bailee's over time and thanks for the wishes...

Yeah my brother had them so it not as scary. Pressure on the eyes helps wake them up supposedly it helps because it's the closest thing connected to the brain I'm not sure though but I do know it works.

When you get the chance could you please take pics of your tank ? You guys added some good stuff !!

Wow, I can't imagine if Christian or Cameron had seizures. As a parent that would be pretty hard to see your child go through. I hope your brother's seizures are better.

I'll try to post some new pics soon. My camera's horrible, so the pictures never bring out the true color. We're getting pretty good growth on our corals though, so I should post some pics:)

Oh yeah they are much better twaldo up there is my brother he had them from like 12-14 he's like 19 now haha. Take your time on the pics! Can't wait!

Glad your brother's seizures are gone...

Yeah, I need to get some new pics soon. Had to move my Red Planet colony because I think it was getting too much light. Ended up moving the Sunset Monti to the center, the Red Planet colony to the left, and moved the Hawkins colony further to the left to give them some room. We're going to have some space issues soon:)

Ended up swinging by my local LFS Your Reef today after work and checked out their frag tank in the back, where they hide all of their goodies:) Ended up picking up this sweet chalice that came in with the Hypnosis and Doomsday colonies. Guess this guy took about a year to color up, but all I can say is that it looks very close to the Doomsday chalice. I saw it and had to have it:) Definitely going to run into space issues soon..haha

Few updates in the past few days. Not with the 45 gallon because there's really not much else Christian and I could do with it right now besides watch things grow:) I am looking into getting a Bubble Magus Dosing pump for it to stablize the 2-parts dosing throughout the day.

I had converted my youngest son Cameron's 95 gallon to a FOWLR and added our first angel ever. Cameron is more of a fish kid and would rather watch the fish swim around than look at corals. I ended up picking up a Juvenile Blue Face Angel, which is beautiful:) Have to do a few things to the aquascape, since I took most of the corals out. The only thing Cameron does is help feed the tank and he's not really interested in doing anything else like Christian. He'll hold the hose during a water change for about a minute and then run off. Typical 2 year old:) Not ready to post pics of this tank yet because it's pretty bear in comparison to Christian's 45 gallon:)

I ended up revamping my 12 gallon Aquapod at my office. It was just a low maintainence tank with one Misbar clown, Joker zoas, Purple Heart zoas, Nuclear green Candy Canes, and a 10 head colony of frogspawn. The tank was loaded with macro algae, which allowed me to get away with water changes every two months. After awhile it looked a little messy because the macro took over the tank. So two days ago I swapped out the 14k Ushio 70 watt with a 20k Ushio, replaced the K-1 with a MP10, pulled out all but a little of the macro, did a 50% water change, and added some sps frags that were laying around in the 95 gallon. Figured might as well, since I was taking the MH's offline to reduce electricity consumption and most of the sps probably wouldn't survive being just under 2x95 watt actinics. Anyways, I'm happy how that one turned out. I'll post some pics later today after I get to the office.

Pics of the 12 gallon AP from today. The corals are pretty basic and most of them were the left over corals that were sitting in the 95 gallon. So far there's good polyp extension and no signs of stress:) The colors of the camera are definitely off like always because my wall is actually a creme color and in the pic it looks orange..lol Looks better in person:) Thanks for looking..

You added the grasses/algae
Right? It's not nuisance? And I would take the clown out and put in some tiny gobies it would be cool!! Kinda like a tide pool!

I added the Caulerpa, Chaeto, and the other plant back in Nov. when I first setup the tank to help export nutrients and to make it a low maintainence tank. Up until two days ago the macro overgrew the tank and literally embedded itself in the entire sandbed and started covering the corals and rocks. It's pretty invasive, but the nice thing is that you could just pull it out. I filled up a 1 gallon ziploc bag of macro and dropped it off at my LFS.

I swung by one of my LFS's today and I'm looking into a Rainford or a Yasha Goby to add. Thought about a goby and pistol shrimp pair, but I'd have to add a deeper sandbed. Making it into a little tidepool tank would actually be pretty cool. I'm thinking that our trip to Belize in June will help give me some ideas of what to do with the tank. I'd like to find some awesome natural tidepools and take some pics. Then come home and recreate it:)

The less rock idea would be cool just a couple mounds and stuff in a 40 cube. With a bunch of algaes and stuff like neon toadstools, sea fans. that would be loaded with like 10 small gobies/blennies/firefish and like 5 chromis

Belize should be awesome! are you diving/snorkeling ?

It would be pretty cool to have a lagoon type reef and it would be fairly low maintainance compared to a sps tank.

We're looking forward to going on our trip. My wife and I are getting dive certified in a few weeks, so we could do some diving out there. I've snorkeled my whole life, but never scuba dove before. Fortunately, its a family reunion trip for my wife's side, so we'll be able to have people watch Christian and Cameron when we're out in the water.

Little update again: Christian and I traded a mini-colony of our ATL Pink Lemonade for 5 frags of nice sps and a really nice neon green base with purple mouths Lepthastria(sorry if I spelled it wrong) at our local LFS Your Reef. John told me that he's going to send some pics of the Lep to Tyree to add it to the LE grow out. We also ordered a pair of Snowflake Clowns, but I think those will go into my 12 gallon at work. Christian's pretty attached to Frank and Bob his clown fish. (Bob is now a girl..lol)

i am just getting back into reef tanks !

Thanks Rocking,

The hobby's really fun when the kids enjoy it and learn from it. Pretty much every vacation we have to visit an aquarium to check out their systems and different collections, but nothing compares to some of the tanks we see on here and RC. We go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Steinhart, Maui, Seatle, Legoland, Sea World, and the kids enjoy the larger fish and sharks, but the reef tanks they always say that their friends tanks and ours is nicer:) Welcome back to the hobby and if you have any children I'd highly recommend getting them involved as well.

Chris

Frank and bob ! LoL!!! You taking pictures in the water?

My buddy offered to lend me his underwater digital camera and I may take him up on the offer. I don't know when the next time I'll be able to afford to go to the islands out there again, so I may as well. If I do take some pics you know I'll be posting them on here:)

I know Frank and Bob..lol He wanted to name his cleaner shrimp Ship, but when he said it sounded more like the four letter word. So we decided to name him Red:)

I really need to update with some pics.. Hopefully I could get some this weekend.

I surprised Christian and Cameron with a nice Pair of ORA Snowflake clowns for Cameron's 95 gallon yesterday and I'm thinking about adding a anemone to the tank for them to live in. Hopefully, these guys will eventually start producing eggs in the next several months, which will give us another project to work on:) Maybe it'll be Cameron's project, since he like fish so much:) Christian named the female Blade and Cameron named the male Bumblebee. They're in a Transformers kick right now:)

We moved the scape around a little in the 45 gallon and pulled out some of the rocks in the center to make more room and more of a smooth transition rather the cliff edge look.

Christian and I slacked on checking the Ca levels in the tank for a month because we were just testing Alk and SG. Our Ca levels were at 350 a few weeks ago, so we had to bump up our dosing and it's back to 9dkh Alk and 440 Ca. I also bought a Bubble Magus Dosing pump because I noticed that our Alk literally will start at 9dkh in the morning and drop to 8-8.5dkh in 12 hours before the next time we dosed. The tank is consuming way too much and it'll be better to have the dosing done 24x a day rather than us doing it once in the morning and in the evening.

We're also switching over from Reef Crystals to the D&D H2O Pro salt, which seems to be working out well for some of our reefer friends. It's pretty expensive salt though at $79 a bucket compared to the $47 we pay for the 200 gallon RC's. We'll keep you guys posted on the results:)

All of the corals are doing well, but we did lose our small colony of ORA Purple Plasma. Was looking a little funny and the polyps weren't coming out. The next day it was STNing. All water parameters are stable, but it could have been when we were raising our Calcium back up. I tried to make sure not to have any major Alk swings and it didn't seem to be anything major, but I'd say that this piece wasn't the healthiest looking since we first got it.:( Will update with pics during the weekend...

Well, I kind of made a trade without talking to Christian, but he probably won't mind. What do you guys think about this trade? I think it's pretty good and the guy seems really nice and is willing to drive 2 1/2 hours to our house to make the trade. We're trading our 95 eye Tyree Bubblegum Monster and 35 eye Bazooka Joe colonies. Here's what we've been offered so far.

2x 6" colonies of Reeffarmer's Ice Fire Enchinata
4" colony of Reverse Ice Fire Enchinata
Softball size Strawberry Shortcake colony
ORA Pink or Red Milli colony (Can't remember which..lol)
ORA Pearlberry colony

and he's giving us a list of more sps corals that he has to trade. So far do you guys think that's a fair trade? I know that large of a BGM and BJ colonies are pretty rare because most people frag them up before they get that large, but I like the corals that he's offering.

Downside is that Christian and I need to start figuring out what sps corals to keep and get rid of within the next week or two...hmm

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Chris
