I think you started with too many too fast. Jmo

Remember that 6 fish by themselves increase bioload by 6X now add more food and feedings. In a new tank this can be overload to the cycle, bacteria and fish.

I got 3 blue green chromis, Chromis viridis. I was down to 1 chromis after a week in quarantine. The dominant chromis killed the other two in short order.

I later got 3 blue chromis, Chromis cyaneus. They sailed through quarantine. There was a little dominance activity but nothing of concern and they usually swam in a pretty tight cluster. They were added to the display. The blue green chromis will harass the blues but it is sporadic in its attacks and the attacks are split three ways. It seems unable to identify a single victim like it did with other blue green chromis. There are things that help in the display tank: much larger volume, far more rock work, and other large fish so the bully is distracted.

IMHO, I believe regular feeding and an aggressive fish in tank helps to keep school of chromis. With a threat in the tank, I believe it forces the chromis to shoal for protection, i.e. survival in #, vs peaceful tankmates where chromis have nothing better to do than compete for food.

Well, the bully killed his last tank mate. Now he is alone and sometimes stares at his reflection or hides in the rocks. Hope he is happy....

Sounds like what happened with my pajama cardinals. Got 3 and 1 immediately started bullying the other 2. Enough to kill one and drove the other into constant hiding. I gave the bullied one away before he died too. One would never think they're this aggressive at the LFS seeing them all floating peacefully in the water.

I bought 5. Down to 2. Got 3 more. Now down to 4. He last 3 were the survivors of the fish store tank.

I feed often 2-3x a day and I think it helps prevent the smallest one from starving as the bigger ones chase it away from food. I feed mostly flakes. Few times a week mysis.
