The Tunze 9001 was just a big pain for me. This Aquamaxx skimmer is much better, easier to operate and has been better at pulling gunk out. The only upgrade I had to make was the outlet pipe length. I added about 4 - 5 inches of PVC to make sure it discharges a good couple of inches below the water level.

Interested to know how much room is left if you move skimmer right over closer to the Weir, see if there is enoough room to have led bracket if i 3D print something to mount onto where first bolt is.

It can move as far over as you need it and still mount. The skimmer bracket can sit on the overflow section. I have it more in the center so I can easily remove my filter cup for cleaning.

Hit some snags with the tank, specifically SPS. I believe I may have the dreaded black bugs. Nearly impossible to get rid of. Half of my corals have died, from the base up losing color then the tissue. It sucks. Since they are so tough to get rid of I will see how things eventually turn out. Fish seem to be doing fine.

Some coral still alive (for now). Under very blue light when these were taken.

I think Devon from reef dudes discussed black bugs on his live stream last week might be able to get some useful information from it

Still liking the skimmer? I have a Max nano as well. Been up and running for about 8months. Thinking about changing the skimmer to a Tunze 9001 or the one you have. Thoughts since you had all 3?

thanks

chris

Yes happy with the Aquamaxx, it has been a good skimmer so far. It (for me) has worked better than the original skimmer and the Tunze. I ALWAYS had to adjust the Tunze, I never have to adjust this skimmer.
