have had this maxima since my dad's tank crashed last year.. it was originally attached to a frag plug but i had to raise it higher in the tank because it seemed unhappy when i switched from the metal halide hood to the LED hood.
so i placed it on a rock and the frag plug slowly began to fall off, till one day it fell most of the way off and i decided to cut inbetween the white stringy stickers and the frag plug.. so when i plased it up high on one of my zoa rocks it loved it. but i had to move the rock around because 1/3 of it broke off and now the clam is tilted and seems like it is stretching on its stringy stickers but is still opening up... is this ok?

no expert here but i would guess its just trying to reattach itself a little more firmly. maybe its sliding or moving more then it likes. clam and zoa's look very nice though. Hopefully someone that knows a little more on clams can chime in...

If it is still attached but a little loose, it may actually be trying to "turn around" to get a better direction of light.. either shadier or more light. If it really didn't like the spot, it would have definitely fallen off by now.

well originally it was side ways left to right instead of top to bottom as shown in the picture, i turned it like that and cant see its little strings anymore so i think im good as long as the turbos dont try to wedge themselves in there. lol =]

I agree if it didn't like the location it would have released, the clam looks happy to me in your pic. I currently have one that is positioned a lot similar to yours and it seems fine.

The clam looks fine to me, it actually looks like it dropped it's byssal thread mass and moved over a little bit? I would see if the clam is even connected to the thread mass and if it isn't I would remove the mass from the tank and just let the clam be.
