Hello I just got my first clam today and did not have a tag on it at the store so not sure what it is. It's a golden white color I was wondering about placement I am at 100 par at the bottom of the tank and between 120-150 in the middle and 170-200 at the top any info on placement and care is appreciated. Thanks

You definitely want deresa clams on the sand and definitely with the mantle pointed straight at the lights. You should have enough light in that setup. Clams are more phytoplankton feeders, so consider adding some to the menu. They also uptake nitrates and phosphates directly from the water column, so they tend to do poorly in more sterile tanks.

Just know that small clams can be difficult and are really much different from many of the other organisms that we keep. Good idea to read as much as you can on their care and keep an eye on how the mantle is extending for the best clue on how it's doing in the tank.

Good luck!

I'd aim for at least 150, to be honest, it's better to have too much than too little. Smaller clams are more sensitive to changes in light, so watch for bleaching. Also, it needs to sit upright, to catch the light on the mantle.

Ok I just turned it over so the mantle is facing the light I'll put some phytoplankton in tonight and hopefully works out well. I also saw a large maxima clam and I've heard that the bigger they are the easier they are is this true?
