hey folks,

So I was glueing up a bunch of pieces I had around my tank and I had to move my platygyra which my small Squamosa (about 3.5") was actually slightly attached to, to my surprise.

He then fell off it and all was well. I haven't noticed anything weird with him since.

Then this morning I went to feed the tank before the lights came on and I saw the thing in the attached photos.

I've seen other threads on here with something similar but they all look like the basal opening shape. This is like a straight perl, size and all.... with what looks like basal threads all over it.

I took it out and it's hard but also complys ever so slightly to firm pressure. Kinda like a perl.

Do clams ever make perls outside their shell? Also, is my clam doomed? He's been mega happy ever since I got him months ago from live aquaria and he wasn't by any means firmly removed from the platy. I just picked up the platy and notice the clam was attached just before it fell off about 1" up from the sand.

Thanks!

Yeah. Not sure if it's a pearl since they tend to have that certain shimmer due to the sediment that collects. Either way, great mystery indeed!

Yeah. It is shiny for sure! Covered in fuzzy slime, but I'm going to dry and out and see!
