Any decent salt mixes other than TM Pro that don't leave crap in your mixing barrel? $140 for a bucket of TM Pro is a bit ridiculous. Especially if you have a big tank. I think at this point I'd be willing to try reef crystals, but cleaning my 200gal hard plumbed mixing tank isn't really feasible.

I'm look for alternatives for TM Pro that aren't going to leave crap in my mixing tank.

For me, AquaForrest mixes up much cleaner than Instant Ocean.

Nyos salt I think is just as good as Tm pro. It’s just hard to get sometimes I feel like it’s always out of stock when I need more

I use Reef Chrystals. The residue isn't that bad. A quick rinse with RO water and I'm good to go.

Not an option for me. I can't really clean IO crust out of this and I have auto water changes going on. I wouldn't want the crust to clog up the RO tubing that is pumping water out.

I used to use Reef Crystals on the tank I setup back in 2008 and I would get a ton of build up on the brute garbage can that I used back then. I can't have that in this tank.

I tried switching to Nyos, but it was ALWAYS out of stock. I had to switch back to TMPro after a few buckets.

EDIT:
I just checked and it is currently in stock at BRS. So I ordered 4 buckets. Maybe availability will be better than it was a few months ago.

Where were you seeing it for $140/bucket? I thought they stopped doing buckets and only did 100 ($65) and 160 ($95) gal boxes now.

Amazon. I prefer to get buckets since I mix up 200gal at a time, but I do buy the 160 boxes from BRS when they are having a sale. Like I bought 8 160 boxes for $75/box at the end of Nov.

Man I miss the white 200g buckets. I opted for TMP because of the lack of the brown gunk and the stability over time after mixed. I can’t remember what other salts BRS tested back when Randy did that stability testing but I’d definitely be open to switching to a cheaper alternative as well if it could check those two boxes.

It seems like availability has gotten better on the buckets but the sack is always out of stock and that’s what I try to get because it’s like $10-$15 cheaper

You can still get the white 200g buckets. You just need to fork over $140 per bucket. I also used TMP for the same reasons. TMP is just getting too ridiculously expensive. I am going to switch back to Nyos and hope availability is better than it was a few months ago.

Brightwell mixes clean. If your salt isn't contaminated from the black plastic shavings from the bucket.

I’m currently using Red Sea coral pro black bucket and struggle with the brown residue buildup in my 75 gal saltwater storage tank. And I also use 1/4 inch RODI tubing for Apex DOS water change. What salt is preferred for low or no residue buildup? Thxs

Tropic Marin Pro doesn't leave a residue, but is getting very expensive and mixes to a dkH of around 7. The low dkH isn't a big deal. I Just dosed more alk to make up for it.

I just switched to Nyos Pure Salt. It also mixes clean with no residue, is less expensive and mixes to a dkH of around 8.5. Which is closer to the 9 dkH that like to keep my tank around. The only downside for me is that it doesn't have the long track record of TM Pro.
