How should you be cleaning new equipment before using it/putting it in your tank?

A new tank after sitting in a box in a warehouse? Powerheads and pumps with oils and grease from assembly and the manufacturing process? Nets, gravel vacs and other tools sitting on the racks at LFS?

Do you just rinse everything with RO/DI water and dry, or do you go above and beyond and clean brand new tanks and equipment with vinegar to rid them of any chemicals or contaminants that might kill off your livestock? Thanks!

Depends on packing situation.
If it's polybagged that was done at the plant it was manufactured in, so minimal dust etc, RODI rinse and into the tank.
In a box no polybag, dust wipedown with cloth then Rodi rinse then tank.
As @Mr. Mojo Rising said, no reason to overcomplicate.
