I am going to run a closed loop, for now it will just be static to all for corners but eventually I plan to ad a wave valve
4400 gph AC pump 1.5" inlet / 1.25 outlet.
tank dimensions are 96x30x24 acrylic

I am planning on pulling from rear of tank approx 10" from top of tank.

Would a 1.5" bulkhead and plumbing be large enough to sustain this flow?
I know the pump is 1.5" inlet but I have been thinking running a 2 inch bulkhead, screen and plumbing and reduce as close to the pump as possible.my thought is to maximize flow, less restrictions blah blah blah. or is it not worth the effort for the size jump?

i am trying to ut together a shing list of items o order to plumb up this whole thing.

thank you
Ken

How many and where are your inlets gonna be, 1 in each bottom corner? Restriction on the outlet side would be more of a reducing factor than a 1.5” bulkhead on the intake side. If you do get 4400 gph out of it, I’d be more concerned with the bulkhead and screen, sucking fish or inverts up to it.

I have 3 closed loops on my tank, you can see them in my build thread. I matched the bulkhead to the input of my pump. So, 2 of them are 1.5” and 1 is 2”. I don’t think you get the actual rated flow to the final output(s). One of my loops does go to my ceiling and then back down to my swirls.

I will say though that I recently plumbed both my return pumps up to my ceiling and then down to my short side. I did NOT have to either increase the flow or restrict the gate valves when I turned the system back on after plumbing this. There was no difference, which was kind of shocking. But i do go from 1-1/4 to 1” close to my sump.

2 1-1/2” loops are each a L2
2 returns are each an L2
2” loop is an Abyzz A4

Over the screen and bulk head will be a 4" basket to cover the screen. this should slow flow down enough that nothing will get sucked in . I also figure 2" would have less velocity then 1.5" at the inlet.

Outlets are 1" each and in each corner of the tank plumbed thru the bottom.
pumps outlet is 1.25" and will feed into a 1.5" 5 way from the bottm and then reduce down to 1"

I don't expect full 4400 but would like to maximize it. I don't want to reduce the flow on the intake side,Prefer any reduction in flow be on the pressurized outlet side.

at each outlet there will be a 1" T or 3 way, reduced to 3/4 loc line and 3/4 RFG

I don't expect full flow but want to maximize.
my closed loop will pull from the back of the tank centered (1.5" or 2') drop down approx 1.5 feet, pump will be mounted on the center upright of my stand, sitting above my sump, 1.25 output will go to a sweeping 90* into a 1.25" 5 way. x with a center input. and then the 4 output will be reduced to 1" and out to the corners and up thru the bottom.

figure if anything I will have a slightly positive head pressure.

i will check out your thread. Thank you

I have not finished rendering the tank and plumbing yet but at least you can see hole placement and where the 5 way will be.

first picture is the bottom with the top layer of my stand
second is from the rear, over flows boxes are not to scale, forgot to measure them
