Cloudy tank

Hello I started a 75 gallon about 6 months ago and I made the mistake of buying fine sand. I can not stop the sand storm no matter what I do. If my fish just swim near the bottom they kick it up. Any suggestions on what I can do .any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Try adding a canister filter with a lot of filter floss and it will help that's what I did when my tank got sand storm!

is it oolite? you may want to consider capping it with a sugar sand and go DSB and then use the canister, or get ready to vac it out.:(

So I should just put a thicker grain size on top and add canister filter ?

I have a similar problem. I used Bahama Aragonite Sand and if I put my Gyre up over 40% it pushes the sand around and causes a bit of a sand storm. I've been thinking about adding about a half inch layer of crushed coral (1/8 - 3/16) to see if that helps, but I haven't pulled the trigger on that yet. I'll update you if I do, and would be interested in what you come up with.

yea thats on soloution. cap the fine with sugar, use the can to get the rest. or vac the whole thing and satrt again.

I will add that I belive a shallow bed should be vacced (funk factory) and cleaned (hard to do with oolite)
or run a DSB and get some sand bugs and worms.

I have the same issue with oolite. Did you end up putting some more course sand on top?

I did yes. I'd reccomend the pretty stuff. Sugar sand. Fiji pink etc. the coarse IMO doesn't hold it down as well. Difference between Velcro and a suction cup. Surface area.
6 years later it's in its third tank.

Update I didn't add the thicker sand grain and my sand finally settled and don't have anymore issues with the sand storm [emoji16]
