I have a 55 gallon reef and i was looking at my tank earlier and within a 20 minutes window i came back to check on it and the water looked cloudy. I started panicking and started to look for any dead livestock which i had a large die off but i coudn't see anything. The next thing i thought was my rockflower nem was dying and i have heard nems can nuke a tank when the die. The nem was fine. None of my corals and fish seem to be stressed. All my parameters are good. I then noticed one of my trochus snails started shooting this milky slime...it looks like they may be reproducing. Idk since i have never seen it in progress. They have had baby snails 2 times already but i have never seen this. I tried uploading a video but couldnt

Anytime I have something like that happen, I grab a hang on the back filter, load a fresh floss cartridge with carbon in it, and run it until the tank clears. Rinse the cartridge, put it back in the filter, and keep it off unless it clouds again. Then I run it for 12-24 hours. That is usually the end of issues. I toss the cartridge out, and put the HOBF back up on the shelf.

Seen my snails do that too, annoying that they cloud the water but have never seen anything look streesed or die from it.

For a couple years I had trochus broadcast reproduce like that all the time. Tons of baby snails start showing up. Pretty cool thing to experience.

This happened to my tank today. Went to feed the tank this morning and my heart sank, I thought I had some sort of bacterial bloom. Then I just saw the snails inking away. Wild they’re able to cloud up the water like that.
