I realize now sea Chem buffer is not that great for reefs. I had high phosphate and put in red sea phosphate reducer, 20 mils in a 164 gallon system. Realized this was way too much so put in two tea spoons of buffer so the PH wouldn't go down not realizing it raises alk.

All live stock look completely fine, just cloudy tank, no build up or anything. Think it will be good? Worried about doing a water change, don't want to mess even more parameters up.
Advice other than never do this again?

My phosphates were at .22 by the way, that's why I put so much reducer in.

When you say red Sea phosphate remover, what exactly did you add?

Was it NOPOX?

That's a big organic carbon dose and the cloudiness is likely a bacterial bloom, and is unrelated to the buffer addition.

Ohhhhhhh!! Yes it was NOPOX!
That makes sense, explains why there was no build up.
Cloudiness has went away.

If you just overdosee the Nopoxndo a big water change right away. it’s same as too much adding vodka dosing
Ahhhh! Alright! that makes sense, thank you! Goes to show you really need to understand what you are putting in, not just what it says. Sounds like common sense and it is, just sometimes you don't think about it.

When you get an algae bloom, maintaining good aeration is the most useful thing since O2 is being consumed. Now that it has cleared, everything should be OK unless nitrate or phosphate are too low.

Thank you so much for the info. I'll check those tonight.
