This is an injury which has become infected and will require immediate treatment in a separate tank using Seachem Kanaplex if it will help heal as this has become severe.
I imagine fish is not eating.
Is breathing normal or rapid?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

How did this develop? Did it begin as a small open lesion and grew larger or did it start as a bump that then ruptured?

Fungal infection in marine fish are rare, but there is one that can look like this.

Maracyn 1 works mainly against gram positive bacteria. This could be fungal or gram positive bacteria. The fungal issue is best handled by 100 ppm formalin dips for one hour daily. Formalin is toxic to people and difficult to source though.

You could try a gram negative antibiotic such as Neomycin.

So I am new to saltwater fish. I used the maracyn before I knew about positive and negative. I ordered maracyn 2(negative) and started using oxy yesterday after wc in hospital tank. The maracyn2 should be here today. The wound is worse now because picture was from dt when first noticed. Today he seems better more active and eating. Maybe oxy is working? It’s funny my wife said “all this time and money on a twenty dollar fish”. I told her you don’t understand the point of the hobby. If he gets better then it was worth it. It’s about trial and error thanks for responding

Similar happened to my male recently - though not as severe. My thought is that he got attacked by the female and the wound got infected.
I had luck treating him with kanaplex in qt.

Vet bills always cost more than the dog :)
