Thinking of adding a pair of clowns to my DT. I'm looking for opinions on a more community friendly clown that will not likely host. I have a mixed zoa and LPS reef and don't really like the idea of a clown irritating my 2 yr old frogspawn that I love. I don't plan to add an anemone either. Not looking for anything fancy, I just think reef tanks should have clowns and I need some.

you always have a chance of hosting. A pair of percs or ocellaris are very peacefull

You could also try some pink skunk clowns. They are the most docile clown I have had experience with, but I'm not sure if they will take to hosting your frogspawn or not.

Good luck

totally agree, i don't think there are any clowns that will not host guaranteed, or are even less likely to for that matter. I second the pair of ocellaris, they are probably the most peaceful at the fairest prices. I have a pair of black ocellaris and they are the best fish i have. But they do love to hose, My RBTA is too small for both of them, so the male sometimes plays in the orange ricordia i have... HTH

Thanks for the replies. Guess I will just have to chance it. Has anyone had a clown host any corals and not had a bad outcome. I really don't care if they decide to host my frogspawn, toadstool, or duncans. I just don't want to lose any pieces.

I've had clowns host a frogspawn without any issues. In fact I wish my current clowns would host my frogspawn or the hammer, but they show no interest. They really didn't bother the coral that much because it stayed open throughout the day and the clowns slept between the branches at night.

before my new build I had an anenome that my clowns loved. When I moved everything over to the new tank I decided against an anenome. The new tank has been set up for about a year now and they have never touched my frog spawn, duncans, or my aleviopora. On the other hand a friend of mine did lose a bubble coral due to his clowns moving into it. Good luck. I also second the post about the pink skunks they look really neat.

I recommend the pink skunks. Mine were really peaceful too, and didn't host in anything but my BT. But, we've had clowns host in torches, frogspawns, and hammers with no problem. We lost a bubble coral when our tomato hosted in it though.

I have percs and skunks in my DT. The euphyllia are fine with them.
