How do u get the clown to host in a nem... I've had my BTA for a while now and also a true perc but he won't go into the nem? any suggestions.. btw i had the nem before the clown in the tank

That could be because BTAs don't host percs in the wild. There's a sticky in this subforum that lists the different clownfish and their respective anemones. Captive-bred clowns are said to be less picky, so those pairings are something of a general idea of what you can expect in your aquarium.

yep - a carpet anemone would work. My clowns never saw an anemone and the babies I captive raised also never saw one. yet after I sent 15 of them to a fellow member's tank - he set them up with a carpet - and within 24 hrs - voila:

Give them time, there is no way to make them host, and forcing a host is an awful thing to do,can cause fish death if anything.

Good luck

I was able to get my TR ocellaris to host in a BTA by turning off the flow and then putting his food in the BTA, so he had to go in a get it and have contact with the nem. It took about a week of only being feed this way and now he's in for good. This is just one example so it may not work for everyone. Also the clown was fairly young, <1yr, which I think helps. He also spend a day of half hosting half swimming around and I was worried it wasn't really taking so I spooked him with the turkey baster and he swam right for the nem, which I think help seal the deal.

Good luck.
