This 3yr old clown had what looked like a scuff on its right side several weeks ago. The area has grown into lesions recently. I’ve also noticed raised spots that are orange and purple-ish. It’s scratching on that side but not displaying other unusual behaviors. Eats well, no labored breathing, very active swimmer. Lesions only on the right side and its mate seems fine. Is this brooklynella? More than one affliction?

This is a very bad skin irritation and ich may be present. I suggest treatment in a separate tank using coppersafe treatment at therapeutic level 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored by a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off

Looks like it could be a bacterial infection, secondary to some injury. Being on just one side typically rules out parasites that tend to be spread more randomly, all over the fish.
