Woke up this morning to my female clownfish of our pair dead, was laying on the bottom left right next to overflow a bit pale. No signs of foul play, gills were open. This tank has an overflow and the pair used to hang out very close to the outlet and near the overflow grill. Thinking of the possibility of must’ve got stuck and died?

90gal: 3-4” Porc puffer, Yellow tang, royal gam basslet, coral beauty, and now 1 ocellaris clown

Not enough information to go on here but clownfish don’t get stuck to overflows and doesn’t sound like it was found attached to the overflow.

How long have you had the fish? Anything new recently?

Did it eat the day before?

Never has a problem eating during feeding time, always picking up bits of krill my puffer spits out while chewing. I’ve had the fish since July last year, bought from my trusted LFS. Nothing new added to the tank since December 29, 2024.

Gills open often suggest lack of oxygen and can be from ingesting large piece of food, injury, aggression or running into object. Hard to tell when found deceased.
With other fish doing well, rules out disease however look for distress signs such as heavy breathing, loss of appetite. loss of color, lethargic behavior and itching/scratching. Assure food offered are easy to ingest
