Clownfish pre-spawning behaviour?

Meet Star,

She usually loves to hang in the tunnel, but recently started to shimmy her butt into the sand and collecting shells in the area. Is this pre spawning behaviour? She's approx 6 months old. Her partner in crime, Cloud is approx 3 months old. They both have started poking at live rocks.

They have been twitching at eachother on and off for a while, but recently started to somewhat dig a hole in the sand? I'm trying to upload a video of her doing it.

At 6 months old, she likely too young to spawn. It's a great sign, however, that the two have paired up and you can expect them to begin spawning within the next few months to a year. If you want to rear the young, you will want to start cultures of rotifers and nano algae once the eggs have been laid. You will also need a plan to remove the eggs from the tank before hatch.

When they have laid eggs and the eggs turn from red to silverish and you can start to see the larvae inside, you'll need to remove them from your main tank to a smaller tank with a sponge filter. You'll then dose the nursery tank with the rotifers to keep the young clownfish fed.

It is a time-consuming process, but very rewarding, I used to breed platinum clowns.

Also, not sure where you are located, but Aquatic Ecosystems in Florida used to carry petri dishes with nano cultures and rotifer eggs which are very affordable if you choose to pursue raising clownfish young.

Thanks for the info! When the time happens, I will see if I can managed to grow the babies. I understand quite difficult and strenuous!
