Clownfish Ripped Anemone

My clownfish just dug into my anemones mouth (it was already slightly opened) and ripped a piece of its inside! The anemone reacted very fast when this happened. Is this normal?

BTW its a magnifica anemone.

Clownfish are weird (some may even say "mean") and they can fixate on things whether it is a shrimp, your hand, a rock, or anything at all. While you situation probably isn't normal, unfortunately it isn't surprising.

My pair just discovered the anemone. They are now OBSESSED with it. Could it just be normal pairing behavior?

It's definitely not normal. I've only seen clowns do this when the anemone is sick. Oftentimes they steal food, but never do they try to "divebomb" in the nem's mouth, unless it's sick. I would consider Cipro treatment. I'm guessing the anemone is a new addition?

Got it about two weeks ago.

The problem is I don't have a spare tank to quarantine it

The likelihood of it surviving without proper treatment is very low.

Maybe you have a friend who can loan you a tank? Depending on how much you spent on the nem (and I hate to use the financial perspective versus considering the well-being of an animal) but it may make sense in investing in a 10 gallon tank, heater, and pump to try to save the anemone.

Why are you so sure it’s gonna die? Is it just a known fact that they don’t get better Without treatment ? It doesn’t look that bad

I have healthy magnifica, and clownfish never go into the mouth. The nem simply won't let them. It typically happens when a nem is sick or dying.

Once a magnifica has an infection, they almost always die without treatment.

My old Maroon used to dive into the mouth of it's anemone all the time especially if it thought I was try to catch it. ended up getting rid of both because the maroon got to mean at everybody.
