I feed LRS (Nano and Herbivore Frenzy) and Nori
Anything else? Variation is key.
Only reason I ask, because this alone is ONLY my flake foods...let alone, my frozen, and homemade foods...

It’s true that the oldest reefs on the site would consider that high end junk food vs clean food which would be recently prepped and purchased clams, squid, uncooked shrimp from the seafood section in a grocery store. It is true that most systems not running the pure feed method are expected to see disease and the older systems running the pure feed approach have lower rates it seems

however I’ve seen no studies where clean feeding prevents a new tank from expressing disease, these are just the clues I can point out from reading patterns posted. Can’t hurt to try and diversify the feed as mentioned

I personally would throw away all those flakes or any dry foods. Dry food is not part of the diversity fish need. None of them will have the oils or living bacteria that will help keep fish disease free. That LRS food is about all you need. Of course if you supplemented it with fresh or freshly frozen clams, your fish would really love you. :)

Nice point, as I type out the junk food analogy I’m thinking about how those companies are grinding up much of the same stuff but thats just not the same as fresh seafood for both bacteria and probiotics due to recently alive but also nutrient availability vs frozen and stored and potentially weeks or months old at time of consumption.

But those are processed vs natural. Humans that eat clean feed rarely touch food that doesn’t need refrigerated -and- has a long expiry date.

I was planning on making my own frozen, but this is easier

we are saying fresh, from a seafood store for human consumption

Im sure freezing it doesn’t remove all the benefit but pro biotics and bacterial benefits will begin to reduce. Price of storage vs consuming the proteins before the expiration date unfrozen.

I don’t mean diversity in one food, I mean diversity in MANY foods.

look at just my flake collection, each one has a different nutritional value. They have some ingredients that are the same in each but each one is done or contains something different.

Same with my four types of frozen foods.

Same with all the fresh seafood I buy.

Sane with the three types of nori I feed.

So in reality I’m feeding about 20+ DIFFERENT types of foods.Let alone all the different ingredients they contain.
