Hello everyone, I am new to the group and also new to having a saltwater tank. So my situation is unique. I was in Nova Scotia in Lunenburg and found a little purple starfish on a rock. We put him back in the ocean and the next day he washed up again.

I don’t know much about starfish so I thought maybe he was dead. My daughter filled her sand bucket with water and put the starfish in it. Then we realized it started moving around the bucket.

Against my better judgement, we took the starfish home. My daughter fell in love with it, and I was thinking it kept on washing up to shore and maybe we could save it. (I know some of you were thinking I should have left it alone, but it is too late now so hopefully some of you have some advice.)

We initially had him in a small little 1.5 gallon tank for the drive home (30 hours). We filled some jugs with ocean water and grabbed some of the big rocks and small coral rocks to set up a tank at home. We have now acclimated him into a bigger 30 gallon tank. He seems to be doing really well.

I am unsure what kind of starfish he is, but I believe it is a common starfish. Can anyone confirm this?

I would like to put some things in the tank with him, but I believe he has a cold water, fish, and no cool tropical fish would live in there with him. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could put in the tank with him?
