UPDATE - I'm thinking everyone that said cerith snail hit it on the nose. Thanks!

Hi All,

I just brought home some chaeto for my sump and it had a little snail with a conical shell hanging on. I've heard about the dangerous cone snail, and wanted to make sure this wasn't it :). I'll add some pictures below. If it helps, I'm located in California. Thanks!

Looks nothing like a cone snail. Yes it’s a conical shell from a snail but not even similar. I’d watch it, I’d put 5 on it being a hermit crab.

Thanks for the response. It is definitely a snail, as I saw it moving. So, any idea what kind of snail it is then? I'm putting together a mixed reef tank and didn't want anything that will grow into a nuisance.

Thanks everyone! I'm thinking cerith is the winner here for sure. I knew it looked familiar, but couldn't remember.
