Alright folks need some help. Jumping back into the hobby after 12 years. Last tank I didn’t have a controller, doser, or even ATO lol but successfully had a decent tank. This go around I have gathered some solid equipment and taking advantage of controllers etc.

So, I had a hydros X8 for power strip and hydros launch - I’m looking to add a doser but would like a more “standalone doser” simply for the space I have available - don’t want the hydros controller doser (unless heavily influenced other wise here.

Trying to see what solid accurate dosers are compatible with the hydros controller OR thoughts on just running a doser on its own app - not connected / controlled through the hydros controller.

Forgive me for my newbieness lol a lot has changed since I have gotten back in the hobby now VS when I was in it as a broke college kid lol

Tank is a UNS R150 Shallow (112 gallon total system / 75 gallon display)
Current equippement

* hydros X8 power strip
* hydros Launch
* 2 MP-40’s (still wondering if this enough flow)
* 2 eheim Jager 200 watt heaters (400 watt total)
* ink bird heater controller
* syncra SDC 7.0 return pump
* Deltec 1000i protein skimmer

*** tank is not wet yet - Dalua X4’s arrive Friday so this Saturday will be splashed. Any thoughts on flow with the 2 MP-40’s? And any feedback on doser options greatly appreciated.

Plan is mixed Reef most LPS / Soft / Zoas
With a sprinkle of SPS too top of the scape.

Thank you!

It will depend on what you are going to do with the pumps. There is the Hydros simple doser that runs from a drive port. It runs at a fixed rate of around 43ml a minute, but it does calibrate by running a calibration dose for exactly one minute. You measure what was dispensed and enter that into the Hydros. Then the Hydros know how much flow it has for one minute so it will use that to calculate the dose you want. The pump has to run for at least 2.5 seconds. There is also a 3ml a minute Hydros doser that is AC powered for lower doses. The Sole is a single doser and controller but the only thing on the controller is the doser. It is the only doser that is rated for continuous use. So that would be good for a kalk pump or AWC pumps. The other controllers with dosers are the Minnow, Blenny and X10. If you are going to do alkalinity testing with the iV then the X10 is what you would want. It is a precision doser and can be used for all three pumps needed for the iV. When I first setup my X10 I also used a simple doser for the drain pump and that gave me 2 of the 4 X10 pumps for dosing All For Reef and a KH buffer. The X10 has a pH and salinity port along with 2 drive ports. The pH and one drive port will be used for the iV. The salinity is optional but there is room for it in the iV. You can also schedule just pH and salinity testing in the iV. I currently do the alkalinity test 4 times a day and the pH and salinity every other hour. I does a pH salinity test at the beginning of the alkalinity test so I have the pH salinity test in sync with the alkalinity test. The Minnow with 2 dosers and Blenny with 4 dosers can run at 25, 40 and 55 ml a minute. They have the same pumps but the Blenny also has 2 drive ports the Minnow does not have them. The X10, Blenny and Minnow have 4 sense port inputs. The sense port input will probably be your most used input since most everything other than pH and salinity will hook to that port. Basically any pump that can be hooked to an AC output or drive port which can be setup to run at a specific flow rate when powered on can be used.

I've run kamoer dosers and RS reefdose with no controller. I've never felt I needed a controller.
I use the exact same setup. Testing can be a pain from time to time, and I feel like I am keeping Hanna in business indefinitely.

I do welcome the day that hydros introduces the maven, assuming that ever happens. Assuming it's testing is accurate, reagents and the unit are both reasonably priced I will jump in to further build out my hydros system. To me, setting parameters and allowing a doser and brain to make adjustments daily will make my life easier. I currently have 4 tanks and they are all small. Fluctuations in the parameters is a constant battle in smaller tanks, therefore anything that can smooth out the swings will help. Additionally, the maven might make tanks plug and play, and it might open up the hobby to a new group of enthusiasts? It is a slowly dying hobby, only for the patient and persistent types

The kamoer is a solid and accurate doser. App is pretty easy to navigate and make adjustments as needed.

The Hydros dosing pumps are made by Kamoer.

I could tell by looking they were kamoer but do you know if they will work with the kamoer app or have they changed something so they are only compatible with hydros. I've been curious
It is just the pumps. The simple doser is controlled by powering it on or off. The X10, Minnow, Blenny and Sole are built into Hydros controllers.

They will only through the kamoer app so far as I am aware of

If it is a Hydros pump the pump itself is made by Kamoer but the electronics to control and power them is Hydros so the Kamoer app will not control the Hydros dosing pumps.
