controlling Montipora growth

I have 3 Monti plates, red and 2 purplish. they grow very fast, just want to know if I just need to snap the edges by hand to control the growth. You can see from my picture, they are all on the left side of the tank.

yup.

ive taken to snapping them and glueing and getting cool shapes rather than just big flats.
 
thanks, what's the reasonable price for this type of Monti frag, $10 for a 2"x2". thinking to post it at my local reef forum

Plating monti's and birds nets can be difficult coral to keep do to how fast they grow. I have stopped keeping them do to this factor.:)
