Hello community, I have a question about copepods. I have been adding copepods to my tank about every other month. I add live phytoplankton 5 ml for every 10 gallons 3x per week. I first started dosing both about 17-18 months ago. I read other threads where people shine a flashlight on their aquarium after lights out and see hundreds of them on the glass. I see a big fat zero. Can anyone point me in the direction to figure out what is going on? Thanks in advance.

What kind of pods have you introduced? I know next to nothing about all the different types but I have read only certain strains occupy the glass?
For over a year I’ve been introducing Apocyclos ranamensis, Tiglops Californicus, Tisbe Biminiensis and Rotifers, L-type.

I only see pods when I don’t clean my glass for 2 weeks and it’s super full of algae then when I clean it with scrapper as I scrap the glass they all jump off

Ah, could be, I’m a little OCD when it comes to clean glass. Thank you.

You might think this is a silly question but have you noticed your live rock looking cleaner.

The tigger pods probably won’t colonize your tank, they don’t do well in these systems as anything other than direct feed.

For the Tisbe pods, are you lighting up the glass side on and then looking through the glass at the side you’re illuminating? This is IMO the best way to see them, though they seem to like different parts of the glass - some areas are packed out, others are deserted.

It has but as I told you before when I got back from vacation ( holiday, British interpretation ha) I came home to hair algae on my rock so with manual removal, dosing hydrogen peroxide and the addition of more cuc it has but can’t attribute it to anything else.

I use a flashlight with a red light but I do always tend to look at the same spot. I’ll scour the whole tank next time, thanks.

check near the corners. Even on my pods culture, they don't really stick to the side, just the odd ones, but they will congregate to the corners of the container.
Will do, thank you. I guess I was expecting to see them everywhere after ready other post. So I am hearing that they are in there?

I thought copepods weren't thriving in my tank but then one day they just kind of because way more noticeable, especially, as some folks have pointed out, in the corners at night. Now I can see them pretty clearly on the glass when the "moon" is out. Patience!

Tigs more then likely won't reproduce in your tank they are a direct food source only in most cases . Same applies to rotifers direct source then the filtration removes them . Cyclops and tisbe one of the 2 should have taken hold by now. Don't scrape your glass for a week they love the algea and it will draw them out to give you an idea of what you have .

Thank you for the info, I am ocd about my glass and I think I would be hospitalized if I went a week without cleaning my glass! I’ll trust your advice that they are in there.

Maybe try leaving a small bit (4"x4") towards the bottom on the side so its harder to notice but hopefully enough algae to make the critters happy?
